Beautiful Purple Martins In Missouri

Purple martins are usually found around Missouri's lakes, rivers and wetlands. Male purple martins have purple-blue bodies with mostly black wings and tails. Early cold snaps of just a few days are hazardous to martin breeding.  Purple martins are known for returning each year to the same nesting location, housed or gourds set up by humans.
