Why is chocolate the most popular candy given on Valentine's Day?
This year some 36 million boxes of chocolate candy will be sold. In the 1600 century explorer Christopher Columbus observed that the Aztecs widely consumed the cocoa bean as a beverage. He brought the beans back to Queen of Spain and in no time chocolate became all the rage throughout Europe. Later in the 19th century medical doctors encouraged patients to consume chocolate to cure a broken heart. In 1861 this treat was first packaged in heart shaped boxs by the Cadbury Brothers candy company. The rest as they say is history.
