The views from these bluffs are not only spectacular but historical as well.
Early Indian tribes appreciated the bluff's beauty and established
several villages nearby. This bluff was
first documented in the early 1800s by explorer Zebulon Montgomery Pike
(of Pike’s Peak fame) who named it La Belle Roche "The Beautiful Rock"
when he and his band of Osage Indians and soldiers first camped along
the banks of the Osage River at what is now the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri.
